Travel by road and you could pass spectacular mountain landscapes, UNESCO World Heritage sites and ancient settlements, like Taxila. Even though the M1 road to Islamabad is the most convenient, take a detour on the Karakorum Highway and you could wind through the Karakoram Mountains. The Karakoram Mountains, spanning the borders of China and India, include ‘K2’, the second highest mountain in the world. The Karakoram Highway is one of the highest paved roads in the world, and a major attraction in Pakistan. The highway is an engineering marvel and is referred to by some as the Eight Wonder of the World, with an elevation of over 4500 metres.
